It was nearly 23 yrs back when I happened to come across a booklet based on discussion of few select questions in physics authored by Shri S P Neelam & my immediate reaction was “Wow”!

Textbook of physics, vol 1 Mechanics is a wonderful book. It’s best aspect is it’s delineation of concepts is perfect. The book is written in language best suited for explaining intricate concepts of physics, yet simple and fluid. Figures and graphs are very illustrative and gel with the content. The authors define boundary of a topic very carefully and honestly. They don’t threaten or burden students with unnecessary complex problems. Main thrust is on conceptual clarity and authors are successful in this.

It is a very well written book with a good choice of illustrative problems that will clear the concepts and build the problem solving ability as required at JEE Advanced level. The students may either use them for self study or an additional to their coaching material.
The best book beyond trace if doubt. Just read it, you are bound to learn. Concepts get imprinted in mind. You will flow with the concepts. Written in creative manner. Examples are chosen cleverly and intelligently. Very good solved examples. Very good exercise. They cover all concepts and sufficient. Better than other available books.
The best book I have come across in my 22 years teaching career for IITJEE. Development of concepts is unique, solved examples are well graded from the easiest to the toughest, required for school exams, IITJEE and Olympiads.

This is certainly the most useful book for school syllabus, IITJEE, NEET and various Olympiads. Definitions & concepts, selection of illustrative problems and problems for practice in exercises, all features of this book are distinctly better than other books.
Contents of Newton’s laws, Dynamics of Circular Motion,Centre of Mass,Rotational Dynamics, Gravitation, Fluid Statistics and Surface Tension are matchless and not found in other sources. As a physics teacher for IITJEE and NEET I can say that this is best book of its genre.
Five features of this book are outstanding.
(1) The book addresses the key question – how to learn physics. It makes a student learn physics in best possible way.
(2) It keeps the student always motivated and confident, student never experiences any frustration.(3) Underlying principles and strategies for simple and complex problems are explained using the same basic approach.
(4) It focuses on typical student misconceptions and problem areas.
(5) Skills and techniques covered in previous chapters are intelligently related to the understanding and knowledge of the current chapter. Multiple concepts and mathematical steps are explicitly explained.

A unique book of its kind. One strength of this book is that is that definitions of basic concepts like displacement, velocity, force, centre of mass, torque etc are dealt with crystal clarity and rigour. As a result, solving problems becomes really easy as you see that it is just a matter of applying laws involving these concepts systematically. There is no scope of confusion. The authors also give a nice background before introducing the technical definitions. This gives a good intuition about the concepts and a better understanding of scientific method. I have not seen other books doing such a good job teaching the subject. A must read.
In my view the quality of book of this category depends on the contents of two topics – Dynamics of Circular Motion and. Rotational Dynamics. On this count this book is extraordinary, a perfect 10.
After so many days a book in physics which is really meant to learn physics rather cramming. Neelam sir is a god gifted professor who has the ability to formulate tedious questions into a very easy to grasp solution.
Authors are very clear in their head.They know very well needs of different students. They have included plenty of NCERT level problems, IITJEE type problems and some Olympiad level problems in increasing difficulty order. 5+ years of exp for JEE or NEET
I recently went through Volume 1 of the book “Textbook of Physics” by SP Neelam and Shriram Hegde sir.
I have been teaching for IIT JEE for the last 14 years and i have rarely seen a book written in such a beautiful way, explaining the minutes details in such a lucid manner.
Solved examples have been very carefully chosen and the way these are used to explain different nuggets in a chapter makes it stand apart.
Solution of these examples feels like a teacher is explaining things sitting besides you.
Even if you have studied a chapter, i am quite confident that this book will make you richer in new concepts and you will get different ideas to ace a problem.
Moreover, collection of unsolved problems at the end of the chapter are amazing. If you are looking for good level problems in a chapter which cover all the aspects, you must give it a try.

Co-ordinate geometry enables one to transform a geometric problem to an algebraic one, which can be handled with greater ease. However, the students sometimes fail to draw a geometric interpretation after the algebraic solution has been obtained, for the problem is geometric, and algebra is a means to its solution, not the end. This book will compel the student to visualize the problem at hand, and the solution once it is algebraically obtained. This way, the student will develop an instinct to figure out the best approach without having to solve problems using long tedious methods.
The text begins with a chapter on coordinates, followed by chapters on the straight lines, circle, parabola, ellipse and hyperbola. Chapter-4 gives an introduction to the conic sections, which offers a geometrical proof of three dimensional definitions of conics into two dimensions. Solved examples included in the text are there for the purpose of illustration and clarification of the text, and examples at the end of each chapter are solved in a systematic and methodical manner with ample diagrams and detailed explanations. There are multiple solutions and approaches for some problems that provide more conceptual clarity. Exercises have been provided for each section and, in addition, each chapter ends with a miscellaneous set of problems. Further, answers are included at the end of the book.

I’m amazed by solution of problems 4.72 (pg 212) and 4.37 (pg 210) of Volume 2. I tried these SHM problems in 11th class but failed despite trying many times. You’ve solved these VERY difficult problems in wonderful way. You are very very imaginative and creative Mr. Neelam. I’ve gone through HC Verma, Halliday Resnick, Sears and Zemansky, Irodov, and Krotov. I can bet no professor in world can solve these problems by the method you’ve done. Having gone through four chapters from the book, I have gained immense confidence in solving problems. I used several textbooks for my preparation including HCV, and Resnick Halliday, but this book BLEW MY MIND. Each chapter has grilling problems, with several ways to approach the solution, thus covering multiple concepts. There were some questions with absolutely crazy solutions, with the approach being super elegant and short compared to what instantly comes to mind. Strongly recommended to fellow aspirants.
The guy is a magician. He has all the concepts, formulations, techniques, lateral ideas and shortcuts in his hat. He can be awfully rigorous when needed and can solve the most difficult problems in ridiculuously simple way. After learning problem solving for three chapters from this book I felt I was nut. I learnt many concepts and techniques from this book. All the solutions are gem but many are out of the world.
